Polish health & beauty products maker Herbs & Hydro has distributed 4,000 units of hemp-scented hand sanitizer and hemp bar soaps for free in a public service initiative.

H&H researched, created a formula from raw materials, and designed packaging for the 30ml sanitizer spray bottles, which fit in a purse or pocket. The 25 gram soap bars are based on existing formulas in the company’s product portfolio. Distribution is through select channels from H&H’s existing retail network in Poland, and personal contacts.

Fighting Covid-19

“This is a way we can use our expertise to contribute to the current situation with Covid-19,” said Julia Bocianowska, CEO at Herbs & Hydro. “It’s a way of giving back. We hope other companies can follow our lead on this.”

While H&H sales has taken a hit throughout its network of re-sellers, as physical outlets have been shuttered during the crisis in Poland, Bocianowska said online sales of her company’s products are holding up nicely, giving it a chance to invest in the public service gesture.

The promotion urges recipients of the sanitizer to pass the bottles to a friend or to emergency workers if they don’t need it, or to support any of several recommended charities set up in Poland that are working to combat coronavirus in the country of 38 million.

Shortage of supplies

Bocianowska said H&H is ready to produce more sanitizer, however supplies of some raw materials and packaging units needed for the formula have dried up.

Herbs & Hydro makes soaps and shampoos from herbal plants, and other hemp-based niche products in a micro-processing workshop in Katowice, Poland, where the company is based. Its most popular line comprises hemp-based hair care products – shampoo bars and separate conditioner bars in variations of plain hemp, hemp & mango, hemp & coconut and hemp & raspberry. The products have distribution in Poland and four other markets across Europe.

As of April 26, Poland’s Ministry of Health reported 11,617 people had been infected with the coronavirus, with 535 deaths. Critics in the country, however, say the government’s numbers are significantly underestimated.
