Seeds headed for Washington delayed

Farmers waiting to plant hemp in Washington state have been set back by “administrative delays” attributed to bureaucracy in Canada, according to the Washington chapter of the Hemp Industries Association (WHIA). Delays at Health Canada’s Office of Controlled Substances, which governs Canada’s industrial hemp program, were attributed to the agency’s workload and limited staff only, and do not indicate any other deficiencies in the process of seed procurement, WHIA said.

While the delivery of the first legal seeds to Washington is expected over the next few days, a celebration and event planned to mark the occasion yesterday in Moses Lake, Washington was postponed by the group.
