Lincoln University (Missouri) as been awarded a $600,000 grant to lead multi-university research into farming and uses of industrial hemp. The grant is from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute for Food and Agriculture. In addition to trialing different hemp varieties around the state and exploring such crop management factors as pest control and fertilizer, the project will look at ways of reducing THC in hemp plants, the university said. Outreach is planned in the form of workshops covering farming, potential applications and law enforcement. Lincoln University will lead the project through its study of genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry, said Dr. Babu Valliyodan, a Lincoln professor who is directing the program. Other universities participating are the University of Missouri, Truman State University and and Southeast Missouri State University.
