International Hemp Building Association (IHBA) Director Steve Allin will run hempcrete building workshops in Europe in late June and August. Obelis Farm, an industrial hemp farm in Latvia, will host Allin for a three-day course June 30-July 2. Allin will teach a similar workshop over four days (August 21-24) in the UK at Shire Farm on Lincolnshire Wolds, a nature preserve, in collaboration with a team from the Aura Soma Academy.
Allin’s course includes instruction and hands-on practice in framing, hempcrete installation, shuttering design and hemp plastering. Past courses have drawn architects, builders, interior designers, students and do-it-yourself-ers.
Obelisk Farm, located in eastern Latvia, offers events such as workshops, hemp product tastings and farm tours. In the UK, Shire Farm is one of the largest biodynamic farms in the UK, and is one of few farms in England licensed to grow hemp.
