U.S. clothing maker The Good Clothing Co. (GCC) said it signed a partnership with AKR Textiles of Tirupur, India to manufacture and develop the company’s U.S. clothing line. GCC is located in Fall River, Massachusetts. AKR, which produces 85 million articles of clothing a year, is also talking with GCC about the potential for developing hemp weaving operations in Massachusetts. The company recently received a $120,000 Workforce Training Fund matching grant from the state to hire and train as many as 20 seamstresses, cutters and pattern makers. Good Clothing is among several Fall River firms working to build a niche in specialized textile making. Massachusetts legalized growing and harvesting of hemp for clothing this year, said Kathryn Hilderbrand, GCC’s owner.
