Viobin, a unit of Denver-based PHM Brands that processes nutritional extractions, said it will invest $6.1 million in hemp processing infrastructure at operations in Michigan City, Indiana. Viobin took over the plant in 2019 to process industrial hemp into CBD for use in lotions, isolates and oils. The upgrades include an expansion for hemp drying and feed production. The expanded facility is expected to add 15 jobs. The Michigan City council approved a five-year tax abatement on the project. Viobin was one of the first companies in Indiana to receive an industrial hemp research license. PHM Brands, which has has five locations across the U.S., is a group of companies that focus on agricultural specialty ingredients and blended products.
