Purdue University is offering a non-credit “Hemp Essentials” online course covering industrial hemp as a crop and potential end uses. The new course will be broken down into five modules, allowing students to join at any time. Modules will be dedicated to the history of hemp, and rules and regulations; genetics, growing cycles and botany of hemp; crop management and production; harvesting and end products; economics of hemp products and finding buyers and markets. Marguerite Bolt, hemp extension specialist in the Purdue College of Agriculture’s Department of Agronomy, said the new online course has been in the works for more than a year. Although the course doesn’t offer any credit, certificates will be granted to those who complete the course. Purdue University is in West Lafayette, Indiana.
