Cigarette giant British American Tobacco said it launched a CBD vape that is being sold through a pilot in Manchester, England, as the company continues to study the potential for CBD in its product portfolio. “We are going beyond just the tobacco and nicotine space,” Chief Marketing Officer Kingsley Wheaton told the American cable channel CNBC. “We’re trying to meet consumer needs that smoking used to meet with a new transformed portfolio,” noting “the regulatory situation around the world is a challenge.” In the Manchester pilot, launched in January, BAT is selling its “VUSE CBD Zone” vape brand in units of 50mg and 100mg in mint, mango, and berry flavors. Results in the Manchester pilot will inform the potential for a nationwide roll-out of the products later in the year. BAT has said it is cutting around 2,300 jobs worldwide in an overhaul to invest in vaping and new products.
