HempFlax plants 700 hectares of hemp in Romania

Holland’s HempFlax says it is planting more than 700 hectares of industrial hemp on newly acquired fields in Romania, bringing to 4,000 ha total fields under hemp by the Oude Pekela-based grower.

The move is due in part to limitations in the firm’s home country, where weather is not conducive to harvesting seeds and fibres alike, HempFlax said.

The firm has adapted a John Deere harvester to separate seeds and fibres in the field. HempFlax has been growing industrial hemp since 1994, and processes hemp for biocomposites used in car door panels. It is also experimenting with hempcrete for building.
